Customers of UK-based travel firm Saga have shrugged off security fears and the recent Brexit vote, with the company announcing an 8.5 percent pre-tax profit increase for the first-half of 2016.

Saga, which specialises in travel and services for the over 50s reported H1 pre-tax profit of GBP£109.9 million (USD$142.5 million), up from GBP£101.3 million last year.

The company saw a shift to longer-haul travel as customers moved away from more traditional holiday destinations.

Recent terrorist attacks in Europe and the UK’s vote to leave the European Union made little difference to overall booking numbers.

A Saga poll of customers showed that fewer than 1 percent were reconsidering their future travel plans.

“We have seen no discernible impact to date from Britain's decision to leave the European Union, this has been especially notable in our Travel business,” Lance Batchelor, Saga’s group chief executive said.
